We can send a COI to:
- You (homeowner)
- Your property manager / HOA
- A municipal office (when required)
What we’ll need from you
To get it right the first time, send:
- Project address
- Who should receive the COI (name + email)
- Any special certificate requirements (if your town/city)
Licensing in New York
New York doesn’t work the same way everywhere. Contractor licensing is often handled at the local level, by the city, town, or county, rather than through one single statewide roofing license.
What that means for you
- If your municipality requires local registration or a specific credential, we’ll confirm what applies to your address.
- If a permit is required, we’ll tell you early in our process before the project starts.
- If a permit is not required, we’ll tell you that too.
Commen Questions About License and Insurance
Can you provide proof of insurance before we start?
Yes. If you want proof of coverage before signing or scheduling, we can provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI). The COI shows the policy types we carry, the carrier information, and key policy details as issued at that time. If your property manager, HOA, or municipality needs the COI sent directly to them, we can do that as well. To avoid delays, share the project address, the recipient name and email, and any special wording or requirements the town or management company is asking for.
Do you carry Workers’ Compensation?
Yes. We carry Workers’ Compensation, which matters because it confirms our crew is covered while on your property. Homeowners and property managers often request this specifically, and it’s a normal part of responsible contracting. If you want documentation for your records or your municipality requires it, we can provide a COI that shows Workers’ Compensation coverage.
Can you send the COI to my property manager or the town?
Yes. We can send a COI to you, your property manager, your HOA, your lender, or the appropriate municipal office if it’s required for permitting or project approval. To make sure it goes to the right place the first time, we’ll need the project address and the recipient’s name and email. If the town or management company requires the certificate to be addressed in a specific way, include that request so the COI is issued correctly.
Will you pull the permit?
Permit rules in New York vary by municipality and by the type of work being done, so the right answer depends on the project address and scope. Some towns allow or require the contractor to pull the permit, while others require the homeowner to be the applicant, even when a contractor is performing the work. Our approach is simple: we’ll confirm what your jurisdiction requires for your specific project and explain the next step clearly before we start. If a permit is needed, we’ll help you understand what documentation is required and what the inspection process typically looks like.
Do I need a “state roofing license” in New York?
In many parts of New York, contractor licensing is handled at the city, town, or county level rather than through one single statewide roofing license. That means the requirements can change based on where your property is located and what type of work is being performed. We won’t give you a vague answer here. We’ll confirm the local requirements that apply to your address and scope of work, and we’ll be upfront about what is required before the project moves forward.
